Fall Opening Planned for Owego Donut & Beer Co.

Beer and donut lovers soon will be able find something to enjoy at a new establishment being developed in Owego.

Ike and Julie Lovelass have been preparing to open the Owego Donut & Beer Co. in the building that had been home to Thompson's Grocery Store for more than seven decades.

The highly-visible location is at the corner of North Avenue and Talcott Street. Ike Lovelass said he believes the business is "going to be transformative."

A key feature of Owego Donut & Beer will a self-serve system that will allow patrons to pour their own beverage. The special "PourMyBeer" technology will enable customers to present an ID and credit card to an employee, who will provide a special card to activate a 20-tap system.

Some of the taps will be set aside to dispense wine or other beverages.

Lovelass said has tried the system at places in Syracuse and Rochester. He said "it's pretty slick."

Julie Lovelass said she's prepared to make fresh donuts early in the morning. She's been focused on establishing a food menu that will include "classic Italian hoagies" and other specialty items.

There also will be some dairy-based beverages for kids and people who don't like beer.

The owners said they want to create a family-friendly place that will have food and drink options for everyone.

Owego Donut & Beer Co. is expected to open sometime in November. The business owners expect to hire 20 to 30 people.
